7 Things You Absolutely Need to Know About the Solar Eclipse Christmas Day!

That’s right, a major Solar eclipse is headed our way on Christmas day, at least for those in North and South America.

If you have not read part one of this article about the super important meanings behind eclipses, you will definitely want to part one of this article first to get the most out of this article and your Solar eclipse horoscope!

#1. Almost every planet is involved in the December 25 eclipse.

This means that almost every rising sign (or Sun sign if you are looking at your Sun sign) has the potential to experience the energy of this eclipse very intensely.

The one exception is Mars, who just barely dips his toe into its watery sign of Scorpio on the morning of the eclipse. But even for those ruled by Mars -- Aries and Scorpio rising, this eclipse still is occurring in specific house in your horoscope, so there is potential for impact! Venus is not in the sign of the eclipse either, but it’s ruler by transit, Saturn, IS in the sign of the eclipse.

#2. The eclipse occurs at 9:59 degrees sidereal Sagittarius.

If you have planets in any of the fire signs (Sagittarius, Aries, Leo) or dual signs, Pisces, Gemini or Virgo, OR if your rising sign/degree is between 8-12 degrees in any of these signs you will definitely experience this event more intensely than others.

Additionally, if you happen to be running the Vimshottari dasha of Ketu or Venus, your eclipse experience will definitely be more intense!

#3. Unpredictable Uranus is in the mix!

For my Western astrology friends and other Vedic astrologers who follow the outer planets, unpredictable Uranus (although retrograde) happens to be in fiery Aries and is in a very close aspect to the eclipse degree. Technically, Uranus from Aries influencing the eclipse is in an agreeable trine to the eclipse in Sagittarius, which can produce surprising results.

#4. Jupiter ruled signs, Sagittarius and Pisces – extra heads up!

Especially if you have your rising degree between 8-12 degrees. Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces is getting caught up in the middle of this eclipse and is barely over one degree away from the eclipse point. J

Jupiter is also super close to the Sun and combust (burned up) during the Solar eclipse. You won’t want to miss your horoscope (scroll down) to see what area(s) of life this has the potential to influence!

#5. For Leo, Gemini and Virgo friends.

Sun ruled Leos, since the Sun is your all-important ruler, Solar eclipses have a significant transformative effect for you. Since this eclipse is also in another fire sign, it is going to light up all three fire signs in your birth chart; Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, especially if you have planets or rising sign in 8-12 degrees in any of these signs.

Mercury will be in the very tricky border crossing area between watery Scorpio and fiery Sagittarius on Christmas morning leading up until about 3:30pm PT. This will weaken Mercury significantly on Christmas day, so my Mercury ruled friends, please do take it easy on Christmas day. No bungee jumping or sky diving, please! Mercury also moves fast and hits the exact eclipse point December 31, at noon. Another day to be very conservative with your physical activities and be sure to let your partner know too, since this event occurs in the house of romantic partnerships for Gemini rising folks!

Be sure to read your Solar eclipse horoscope for your rising sign to see what areas of your life this has the potential to influence.

#6. Mula Nakshatra (Lunar Mansion) is strongly activated during the Solar eclipse.

Mula nakshatra is up for this eclipse! From my book, Vedic Astrology for Beginners, that is due out in February: “Mula is representative of the destruction of the material to pave the way for the progress of the spiritual, and it is the first of the final group of nine nakshatras that represent the shift into a spiritual life. Mula means “root,” and it is also associated with the Muladhara, or root chakra.”

This nakshatra has the power to destroy things, so a great time for removing any literal or mental obstacles in the path of your spiritual progress. This is a a powerful new Moon, but remember from the last article. that eclipses are the worst time to begin important new projects, and Mula nakshatra is particularly poor for new beginnings. Depending upon which area of you birth chart the eclipse occurs, there can be an opportunity for pulling up old roots and replanting. Check your horoscope below for your sign to learn where.

#7. Regardless of the eclipse – have a wonderful holiday!

I know this might seem contrary to the last six things, but seriously – have a joyous day! Eclipses occur every six months and it is likely that you have not experienced significant life events, except maybe some additional stress and who isn’t somewhat stressed around the holidays?

Convergence of many different elements is required to trigger a dramatic life event; transits, planetary periods and sub-periods, the condition of the individual birth chart and the strength of planets within the horoscope. It is really good though to have a heads up and as I mentioned in part one of this eclipse article, just be conservative on the day of the eclipse and enjoy your holiday with friends and/or family.

Legal documents, justice, philosophy, religion, foreign travel, higher learning, teachers and teaching and father is illuminated by this Solar eclipse in sidereal Sagittarius. Jupiter rules these areas of your life, which are up for review during this time.

Jupiter, the planetary ruler of Sagittarius, is intimately involved in this eclipse and is super close to the Sun at the time of the eclipse, technically creates combustion (outer indications of Jupiter get burned up).

The combust state of Jupiter will add another layer of influence to the Solar eclipse. If at all possible or practical it is ideal to wait until after the eclipse before signing legal documents or beginning a long journey (think foreign travel) on this day or the day after.

This is, however, a fabulous time to think about these areas of life and which ones you want to remove from the roots up, so you can re-establish your spiritual path or your broader network of friends going into the new year. Mula nakshatra and eclipse time periods are not good for new beginnings so be sure to wait a day or two after the eclipse!

Your partnerships (both personal and business) are being highlighted during this Solar eclipse and the Lunar eclipse on January 10, big-time! Jupiter, the planetary ruler of partnerships and career is very close to the December 25 solar eclipse degree. Combine the eclipse energy and Jupiter’s’ proximity to the Sun (also eclipsed), there may be some changes at your place of business or in your relationship if you are currently in a committed partnership.

This eclipse energy can manifest in a few ways. If you are unemployed, you may decide to pivot and try something totally different in your next role. Or an offer may come from seemingly out of the blue between now and the end of the year! If you are in a partnership the eclipse may spur you to revitalize your relationship by utilizing the strong energy of Mula nakshatra and removing relationship patterns that no longer serve the two of you and your highest good.

Do you have some plans that you have been waiting to implement to support a new relationship or a new career path? You may have had some indication of what or who this be earlier in the month when Jupiter connected with surprising Uranus on December 15. This eclipse could set the stage for a new venture and/or a new relationship! Take advantage of the powerful eclipse energy within Mula nakshatra to remove any old, weak roots and replant strong new roots once we get through these eclipses in mid-January.

Also, please keep in mind your ruler Mercury is quite weak on the day of the eclipse as it is crossing the gandanta zone between water and fire. No life-altering decisions if at all possible, on this day - or bull riding, skydiving, etc.!

Life has been super hectic for you in the day to day area of responsibilities and mundane work. I promise, sensitive Cancer, that the next few weeks (up until about mid-January) will be the last of the daily crazies for you!

You may have some last-minute legal matters to attend to or if you are taking some continuing education, certification or college courses, there may be something additional required from you in the next few weeks to complete your course commitments. At the same time an exciting opportunity could come out of the blue regarding your career, especially if you are a teacher or involved in the travel industry.

Remember, eclipse days or not great times to begin new projects. The eclipse in Mula is great for tearing out the old roots to prepare for a replanting or laying a new foundation, of sorts. Wait until after the eclipse before starting important new projects. Decide what needs to be pulled out from the roots so that you can replant anew and pursue your spiritual path and your dharma.

Be on the lookout for my Saturn in Capricorn forecast coming in January – this will be a super positive shift for you in the area of romantic relationships! Stay tuned…

Lovely Leo, this is a biggie for you! Since you are ruled by the Sun, all Solar eclipses will be felt intensely by you. That said, the area of your birth chart that has been seeing a lot of action lately will continue to be emphasized during this eclipse – your relationship with your children, your own creative abilities, and your romantic desires will be on the menu for this Solar eclipse. There may be some element of surprise connected to any one of these areas of your life.

Maybe a new or former love will appear out of the blue! Or one of your children may decide to make some big life changes.

All of the fire houses (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) will be activated so your spiritual path and travel to foreign lands as well as the first house of your physical body is going to be energized during this eclipse.

Whatever needs to be rebuilt or re-purposed, utilize the powerful energy of Mula nakshatra to destroy the old roots that are no longer of value to you and replant new ones. Just don’t replant until a few days after the eclipse! As I mentioned in my first article, eclipse days are not the time for new beginnings!

As I mentioned in part two of this three-part series, your ruler Mercury is totally caught between watery Scorpio and fiery Sagittarius at the time of the Solar eclipse. This tweener space is particularly good for – well, absolutely nothing but spiritual practice. Which are also what eclipse days are good for, too! Bonus!

This eclipse is landing squarely in the area of your life associated with your home, your intuition and emotional well-being, and your mother. Mula nakshatra is encouraging you during this eclipse to determine which roots from your foundation up need to be retooled going into the new year so that you can be truly, completely joyful! Which emotional patterns need to be assessed and pulled out at the root that no longer serve you? What needs to be removed and replanted with regard to your relationship with your own intuition and your mother? These same questions may apply to your current partnership since Jupiter is also responsible for relationships and is closely entangled within these eclipse energies.

You may also feel spontaneously like making changes to your living space. Maybe you feel like making a move, or possibly just a remodel or expansion to shift the energy to suit who you are now? Whatever the case, expansive Jupiter and unpredictable Uranus are teaming up for some changes in your home spaces.

Wow! Communication, writing, creativity, short journeys and younger siblings are all in focus around the Solar eclipse. The third house is a very social place, so communication associated with social interactions are included, too! Since many families coming together for the holidays, it is an excellent time to steer clear of any potentially sensitive subject in social situations or with siblings! Especially with forceful Mars moving through the area of your chart associated with speech. Definitely a time to think twice before speaking.

The exciting news is that there may be something coming as a total surprise for you in the area of writing, or in the media! You may get an offer to write a column, some press on your existing material or maybe a book deal comes out of the blue!

Additionally, you may want to take a look at your day to day routine and decide what might be standing in your way of accomplishing goals surrounding communication. Whether you are a writer or not – what needs to be pulled out from the roots up so that you can accomplish your objectives in the area of social interactions and communication. Mula nakshatra is just the nakshatra for removing and replanting roots. Just be sure to wait until after the eclipse to replant!

Lucky you, Scorpio! Your ruler Mars is totally out of the Solar eclipse planetary pile-up zone and it is very strong in its own sign, Scorpio through the first week of February. That said, the eclipse still occurs within your birth chart, and the area of life associated with your family, savings and speech. If you are getting together with family around the holiday, you may want to carefully consider your speech prior to bringing up anything that might be considered controversial.

Also, food is coming into focus with this eclipse! If you have been contemplating a healthier diet, now is the time to consider what you want to remove from your diet moving forward into the new year.

At the same time the eclipse energy is encouraging you to consider what needs to be addressed with regard to your savings. An unforeseen creative opportunity may appear the week before the eclipse that could turn into something terrific and also help you to achieve your savings goals. Or if you have been trying for an addition to your family, you may receive some wonderful surprise news!

The Solar eclipse ultimately is terrific for removing whatever is standing in your way of you your financial, eating habits and familial goals. Mula nakshatra, where the eclipse occurs, is great at removing what is no longer serving you at the very root level, so that you can replant. Just be sure not to put new plans in place until a day or so after the eclipse! Or if you can wait until late January, even better since Saturn will be moving out of sidereal Sagittarius at that time.

Oh my. This eclipse could be a wild ride for you Sagittarius! The deck is stacked with planets piled up in your sign and the Solar eclipse in your first house of self on top of it all, there could be a lot of intense energy felt by you on this eclipse day.

On a very personal note, you may be contemplating some major changes in your appearance. If so, be sure to wait until AFTER the eclipses are over mid-January. If you do it now you may decide that you do not like what you have done and an expensive trip to the salon or clothes shopping in late January could be the outcome.

Since the Sun is responsible for legal contracts for you there may be some exciting or unexpected news in this area. If you have any outstanding legal contracts, especially connected to real estate, it may be best to wait a day or two after the eclipse before signing any agreements if at all possible. Sometimes though eclipses can push the peanut forward on issues, and there may be no way around it, there may be some surprises in store for you a few days before or after this event that could be very personal or related to your home.

Since Mercury is in transition between fire and water, there may potential for some changes in leadership at your place of business or some other structural changes coming between the eclipse and the new year at work. Keep in mind that changes, whether we view them as positive or not, are often hugely important steppingstones toward moving us toward what we truly want in our lives, whether by support or as an irritant.

All of the planetary action and the Solar eclipse is occurring in the area of your chart connected to your subconscious mind and the zone associated with isolation and spirituality – think ashrams, meditation retreats, etc. It is also the house in the birth chart that represents sleep and dreams.

Pay very close attention to your dreams the day before, the day of and the day after the eclipse! You may receive important insights from your subconscious mind that can support emotional healing. If you have a difficult time sleeping, trust that this will pass in a short time after the intense eclipse energies begins to dissipate a day or two after the eclipse.

Mindfulness during the day of the Solar eclipse will also be particularly valuable. Use the sharp energy of Mula nakshatra to destroy the roots of any negative subconscious thoughts so that they can be replaced with harmonious and positive thoughts that will support your objectives now and into the new year ahead.

The twelfth house is also associated with loss – and planned loss (philanthropy) is considered to be a wonderful remedy if you are experiencing loss in your life.

Volunteering at a children’s hospital or a senior center would be a wonderful way to serve others and mitigate some of the more intense energy of this time period.

Your friends and social network as well as those who may support you in your career objectives are coming under the microscope during this eclipse. On one hand you may receive some exciting news from a friend or a group that you are associated with that may be helpful to your career.

Or, this Solar eclipse may bring some unexpected news about your income, such as a raise or bonus. If you are self-employed you may receive a surprising new source of income from a client or business.

Since the Solar eclipse is occurring within the nakshatra of Mula, this time also provides the opportunity to determine which social networks you want to focus on to achieve your goals and desires, and which ones may need to be pulled up by the root (Mula) and replanted. This is a wonderful time to contemplate these issues, but not a great time to implement new plans. Hang on until after the eclipse is over before putting your ideas and dreams into action!

Your ruler Jupiter is totally involved with this Solar eclipse. Two of the most significant houses of your birth chart are also activated! The first house of the self, and the all-important 10th house of career and your public reputation.

There may be some major changes occurring with regard to your career path. Things have probably been fairly intense the past few months, regardless of the upcoming eclipse. You may have heard some rumblings around the office in the past week, and the eclipse may trigger the shifts that are ahead, possibly a promotion, corporate restructure, or if you are self-employed maybe a pivot into new and uncharted territories?

A surprising opportunity to relocate to another state for work may arise, or possibly you or your partner are considering a move? Whichever the case, be sure to contemplate now but act LATER. The eclipse time periods are best left along for major life decisions.

Also, Mula nakshatra being the hostess with the moistest for this eclipse will require that you strip your contemplations down to the bare root. Mula means root and the goddess Nirriti will support your efforts to destroy roots that are no longer serving your highest good to replace them with healthy, strong, and viable roots in the area of your career and your personal goals.
