New Moon in Ashwini Vedic Astrology Healing

Hi friends,

The Aries New Moon arrived in the early hours of April 17 carrying the bright signature of Ashwini, the nakshatra of swift beginnings, first breath, divine healing. And yet if you are feeling less like a new beginning and more like you are waiting for something to resolve, you are reading the current influences correctly.

This is a New Moon whose ruler, Mars, is not available to it in any ordinary sense. Mars is twelve houses away from the lunation, buried in Pisces alongside Saturn and Mercury, the same triple conjunction I have been writing about in recent weeks. The spark is real. The fire is working, but it is working beneath the surface for now.

Your rising sign guide fir the New Moon is below — scroll down to find yours, or read on for the full interpretation first.

Keep looking up,

Pamela

Sidereal Vedic Chart – New Moon in Ashwini Nakshatra

Vedic astrology New Moon in Ashwini sidereal chart

The Ashwini Kumaras are the celestial physicians to the Gods.

Golden-complexioned, born at dawn, swift as a thought. They are linked to prana, the vital force that activates, revitalizes, and restores. The New Moon in Ashwini, instinctively is to lead with that energy. New beginnings and swift action.

But where is Mars, the ruler of Aries, the dispositor of the Sun and Moon?

In Pisces twelve houses away from the New Moon. The twelfth house in Jyotish is the house of hidden things, of retreat, of the shadow that cannot yet be brought into the light. It is also the house of isolation, of dissolution, of loss and of the unconscious.

If you have been following my recent writing on the Mars-Saturn-Mercury stellium in Pisces, you already have a sense of this astrological terrain. Although the New Moon it is still indirectly and powerfully impacted by Mars in Pisces with Saturn and Mercury. A tense combination that has been building for weeks. Mars remains caught up in the ongoing effects of the triple conjunction, navigating the tension between established systems and emerging needs, between what should be expressed and what cannot yet be put into words, and between action and its lasting consequences. Mars is struggling to direct energy outward in a water sign and initiate action.

This is not a New Moon for bold actions connected to new beginnings or important initiatives. It is a New Moon for the kind of healing that must happen quietly, below the threshold of the ego's plans. The celestial physicians are present, but the healing and recovery happens in the part of you that is resting, dreaming, integrating, and not the part that is making announcements.

And there is truth in that Venus conjunct this New Moon adds beauty, desire, and a graceful receptivity to whatever is being seeded. Venus with the New Moon is the grace note here. Venus asks: what do you love? What calls to you beneath the noise? Seed intentions around beauty, connection, what genuinely draws you rather than what you think you should want.

The shakti of Ashwini is swift accomplishment, but swiftness is not always about pace. Sometimes, what’s needed is to quickly let go and realize the body understands what the mind is still questioning.

Mantra and Intention for the Ashwini New Moon

The Sacred Salutation: To align with the energy of the Divine Physicians, chant the traditional mantra–Om Ashwini Kumarabhyam Namaha (Ohm Ash-vee-nee Koo-maa-raab-hyaam Nah-mah-hah)

When to practice: Chant quietly in the hours leading up to the New Moon, or while the Moon begins to wax in Ashwini (through 9:00 PM PT, April 17).

The Intention: If you prefer a simple reflection, hold this thought as you settle in:

“May the healing already underway find its way to the surface in its own time. Divine restoration moves at its own speed; I trust the wait, for the work is already in progress.”

Anubandha: The Hidden Bond Between Rahu and Saturn (2025–2026)

Saturn and Rahu

We are living inside one of the rarest planetary configurations of our time.

In this article, I explore the deep karmic connection between Rahu and Saturn, what it means collectively, and what it is asking of us individually.

Your Rising Sign Guide for the New Moon

For the most accurate insights, read your Vedic rising sign rather than your Sun sign. Don’t know your rising sign? You can calculate your calculate your Vedic Birth Chart here.

Aries: Your own beginning

This is the most personal lunation of the year for you. It can offer a powerful reset of identity, appearance, and how you move through the world. Venus conjunct the New Moon brings beauty and receptivity into the renewal, softening your usual Aries drive into something more attuned to what you genuinely desire rather than merely a goal you are push to achieve. Mars, your chart ruler, is temporarily occupied elsewhere in Pisces. Who you are becoming does not need an audience yet. When Mars enters Aries on May 11, you will feel transformed from the inside out.

Taurus: The underground chamber

This New Moon activates your twelfth house of rest, retreat, and the unconscious where your chart ruler Venus is luminous and present. This is one of the most introspective lunations you can experience this year, offering an opportunity to care for what may have been overlooked amidst the daily pressures of life. Something beneath conscious awareness is asking for attention. Sleep and dreams matters more now. This New Moon is definitely an inside job!

Gemini: Where your people are

Community, long-term goals, and like-minded others are connected to this New Moon. Venus brings warmth and magnetism to your business and social networks, and this is a good moment to initiate or renew connections, especially related to your career goals. Articulate what you are hoping to build alongside others. Mars rules Aries, where the New Moon is present, and his current entanglement with Saturn and your chart ruler Mercury suggests that the new chapter in your community life is still sorting itself out. Plant the seed, but give it room to germinate at its own pace. Look forward to month-end when Mercury finally leaves Pisces!

Cancer: What you are building toward

Your career, vocation, and public facing persona are energized by the New Moon. Venus here adds diplomacy and charisma to your professional presence, and something about how you show up publicly is finding a new expression. Although this is not a moment for forcing visible outcomes, but for clarifying what you are genuinely working toward. The ambition that is most true to you, that is most aligned with your personal philosophy and true nature, is what this lunation wants to nourish.

Leo: The long view

Philosophy, belief, higher learning, and foreign travel is illuminated during this New Moon in Aries. This is emphasized by your chart ruler Sun, exalted in Aries through mid-May. Venus conjunct the New Moon invites a new relationship with meaning and what you believe about your own life, what draws you toward growth, what you might pursue if utility were not a driving factor. There is something to be rediscovered about your own authority, especially as a teacher or guide.

Virgo: The deeper waters

This New Moon activates your eighth house of shared resources, intimacy, transformation, and what lies beneath the surface of ordinary exchanges. Venus here softens what can be a house of intensity bringing the possibility of genuine trust, of allowing yourself to receive, of recognizing beauty in the process of change. Something in how you hold shared life emotionally, financially, energetically is being quietly reoriented. Let it. Mercury engaged in serious battle with Mars and Saturn in your partnership zone during the New Moon emphasizes these areas of life and some struggles in resolving them. Mercury leaves Pisces at the and of April and will be in a better position to support your goals.

Libra: The mirror

Committed partnership and one-on-one relationships are being energized by this lunation. Venus, your chart ruler, is present with the New Moon in your 7th house of partnerships, and there is unusual grace available in your closest connections right now if you can meet them with openness. Mars, the ruler of your relationship zone, is otherwise engaged with Mercury and Saturn. The quality of partnership being seeded here will unfold in its own time rather than on a schedule you might like to set. What matters is the quality of desire, not the pace.

Scorpio: The body speaks

Your sixth house of daily practice, health, and the rhythms that sustain you is lit by this New Moon. Venus here asks what would make your daily life more beautiful and enjoyable instead of more efficient. The discipline that comes from genuine pleasure is more durable than the discipline that arises from should. Your chart rulers Mars is in a complex situation right now; the body is receiving signals that may feel subtle or at conflict with what you want to create for the joy of it. Pay attention to what the body asks for rather than what the mind thinks that it needs.

Sagittarius: The joy that is trying to return

Creativity, romance, and authentic expression come to the surface during this lunation. Venus conjunct the New Moon here is one of the most genuinely pleasurable configurations possible, and something in how you create, play, or love is finding a new pulse. Matters related to children or the next generation are also in the picture. Mars rules your fifth, and the current transit situation with Mars suggests the full expression of what is being seeded may take some weeks to bring into form. For now, notice what bring you joy and sparks your creativity. That is enough.

Capricorn: The foundation

The fourth house of home, family, private life, your emotional foundation is charged by the New Moon in Aries. Venus with the New Moon asks what would make your home life more genuinely nourishing–not more organized or impressive, but more genuinely yours. What brings you peace and stability. Your chart ruler Saturn is in the middle of the Pisces triple planetary war, doing difficult but necessary work. What is being asked of you in the home and family sector may feel like pressure from a direction you did not anticipate. The New Moon is a seed of what can stabilize over time.

Aquarius: The necessary word

Communication, your immediate environment, and the ideas that animate your daily life is activated. Venus conjunct the New Moon here brings ease and artfulness to support your voice, especially if something you have been trying to articulate may finally find its right form. Mars as ruler of the New Moon in Aries is otherwise occupied in a significant planetary war with Saturn and Mercury in Pisces. So be patient, the words that need to be spoken will find their moment. For now, write. Draft. Let the idea take shape on the page before it needs to be put out for the world to hear or read.

 Pisces: What you value

Your second house of resources, self-worth, and what you materially and spiritually value is illuminated at this New Moon. Venus brings the recognition of what is already present and beautiful in your life. Mars is active in your first house, alongside Saturn and Mercury (creating a three-way planetary war) and this has the capacity to create a lot of tension around these issues for the time being. Mars remains in Pisces through May 10, and there is significant inner work underway directly connecting to questions of value and worth and your spiritual path. What you are processing below the surface now will reshape your relationship to resources and your world view in a profound and long lasting way.
