Moondance Astrology: Frequently Asked Questions

The Vedic Difference

Q1: What kind of astrology do you practice?

I practice traditional Vedic astrology (Jyotish), using the sidereal zodiac aligned with actual constellations. My interpretations draw from classical Sanskrit texts, twenty years of practice, and advanced training as a certified Jyotish Acharya. I'm also the author of "Vedic Astrology for Beginners" and write extensively on astrological timing and planetary archetypes for mental health professionals, therapists, and entrepreneurs on Substack.

Q2: How is a Vedic reading different from a Western astrology reading?

The fundamental difference is the zodiac itself. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which aligns with the actual star positions. This shifts most planetary placements approximately 24 degrees backward compared to the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology.

Additional distinctions include:

  • Predictive timing through Vimshottari dashas (planetary periods and sub-periods)

  • Classical house interpretations based on traditional Jyotish principles rather than modern psychological frameworks

  • Focus on dharma, karma, timing optimization, and practical remedial measures

Q3: I'm familiar with Western astrology. Can you bridge the two systems?

Yes. I work fluently in both systems and can translate between them. If you're transitioning to Vedic astrology, I'll show you how your placements shift (often by a full sign), explain your dasha cycles, and clarify why these systems offer different yet complementary insights.

Q4: Why work with you versus another Vedic astrologer?

My approach combines rigorous traditional methodology with contemporary application. I work primarily with therapists, coaches, business and healthcare professionals, and entrepreneurs who want precise analysis without spiritual bypassing. My background includes over two decades of practice, certification as a Jyotish Acharya, and published work in the field, grounded in a scholarly approach that respects both classical Jyotish and modern psychological complexity. I also bring decades of practical experience in both domestic and international business, which informs how I apply astrology to real-world decision-making. In addition, I offer astrolocality, a specialized discipline requiring advanced training beyond foundational Vedic astrology, and I incorporate advanced Western astrological techniques when they add clarity and depth.

Booking Your Session

Q5: What information do I need to provide?

  • Date of birth

  • Birth time (as accurate as possible—hospital records or birth certificates are most reliable)

  • Birth location (city, state/country)

Q6: What if I don't know my exact birth time?

You can still receive a meaningful reading, though timing precision will be reduced. My Birth Time Correction service uses life events and analytical techniques to approximate your birth time. Without confirmed timing, house-specific insights and dasha predictions will be less exact.

Q7: How do I book a session?

Visit the Schedule a Consultation page, select your time zone and preferred date, and complete the booking. You'll receive confirmation and preparation details via email. I work with clients internationally across all time zones.

Q8: What format are sessions conducted in?

Most sessions are conducted by phone, which allows for focused conversation without technical distractions. Dedicated astrolocality sessions are conducted via Zoom to share maps and visual materials.

Q9: How should I prepare for my session?

Review your birth data for accuracy. Consider what areas of life you want to explore—career direction, relationship patterns, timing for major decisions, relocation, etc. If specific questions arise, jot them down. Come with openness and curiosity. That's all you need.

Q10: How long is a reading, and what does it cost?

Most new clients book 60–75 minute sessions, with optional 15–30 minute extensions. Current pricing is listed on the Schedule a Consultation page.

Q11: How do I choose between different reading types?

New clients should start with the Foundational Reading. This provides comprehensive analysis of your chart's core themes, major timing cycles, and current transits. From there, we determine the optimal focus for future sessions—career, relationships, locational astrology, or other specializations.

During & After the Reading

Q12: What happens during a session?

This is your time—we focus on whatever areas matter most to you. A typical session may include:

  • Analysis of your birth chart (lagna, Moon, dashas, transits) in sidereal framework

  • Exploration of specific life areas: vocation, relationships, finances, dharma, health patterns

  • Identification of favorable timing windows, challenges, and strategic opportunities

  • Discussion of remedial measures, timing strategies, or practical support based on your chart

Q13: What kinds of remedial measures do you recommend?

I offer practical remedial measures tailored to your chart and receptivity—mantras, timing strategies, ritual practices, behavioral adjustments, and awareness practices. I don't push gemstones unless you specifically ask about them, as I find most clients benefit more from awareness-based and ritual remedies. All recommendations respect your belief system and lifestyle.

Q14: Will I receive a recording or written materials?

I don't provide recordings or notes. You're welcome to record the session on your own device. If you purchased a PDF chart during booking, it will be emailed before your appointment. You can also calculate your chart at: moondanceastrology.com/vedic-astrology-chart-calculator

Q15: Can I ask follow-up questions after the session?

Follow-up questions require scheduling a 30-minute follow-up session.

Q16: How often should I have a reading?

Most clients schedule sessions once or twice annually—typically around birthdays, major transits, or decision points. Others prefer more frequent session or quarterly check-ins during significant transitions or business launches. The optimal frequency depends on your needs, timing cycles, and preferred level of support.

Specialized Services

Q17: Do you offer packages or ongoing support?

Yes. Beyond individual readings, I offer customized packages, multi-session support, compatibility analysis, career consultations, and locational astrology services.

Q18: Do you interpret eclipses, electional timing, or relocation charts?

Yes. I provide specialized sessions for eclipse interpretation, electional timing (muhurta), and locational astrology for relocation, travel, or business decisions.

Q19: Do you offer readings for family members?

Yes, provided you have accurate birth data. For adult family members, I require their attendance or explicit consent—I respect individual chart privacy.

Q20: Do you offer past life readings?

While sessions focus on this lifetime, karmic themes and soul purpose arise naturally in chart analysis. If you're interested in past-life indicators, we can explore how they manifest in your Vedic chart.

Q21: What can't astrology do? When should I work with someone else?

Astrology provides timing, context, and strategic insight—it doesn't replace professional medical care, legal advice, financial planning, or mental health treatment. If you're in acute psychological crisis, I will refer you to appropriate therapeutic support. Astrology works best as a complement to, not a substitute for, professional services in these domains.

Resources & Community

Q22: Do you offer any free resources for people not ready to book?

Yes. You can calculate your Vedic chart for free at moondanceastrology.com/vedic-astrology-chart-calculator. I also publish in-depth astrological analysis and forecasts through my Substack newsletter, Moondance Astrology, which serves mental health professionals, entrepreneurs, and depth practitioners. You can explore these resources to get a sense of my approach and analytical style before booking a session.
