What the Wind Carries Away: May 1 Swati Full Moon & The Art of Yielding

Hi friends,
The Libra Full Moon arrives on May 1st at 10:22 AM PT, illuminating 17° of sidereal Libra within the nakshatra of Swati, possibly one of the most elegant lunar mansions of the 27.
This is a full moon of wind, of breath, of things in motion. And with Mars and Jupiter both casting an aspect to the Full Moon, the question is not whether things will move, because they will... but whether the movement is toward endings, or just disruptive.
Your rising sign guide is below, find yours and then come back for the full picture, or read straight through. Whichever works best for you!
Keep looking up,
Pamela

Sidereal Vedic Chart - Full Moon in Swati Nakshatra

Swati is the nakshatra of the wind god Vayu, which is not the gentle breeze of a pleasant afternoon, but the divine breath that purifies, that moves through every living thing, that carries prana from one world to the next. Vayu is also the king of the celestial musicians, which tells you something: this is wind with intelligence, wind with rhythm, wind that knows what it is doing even when it appears chaotic.
The symbol of Swati nakshatra is a single blade of grass or a young plant shoot, something that should, by rights, be destroyed by a wind storm. And yet it survives. Not because it is strong enough to resist, but because it has learned the art of yielding without losing its root. That is Swati's deepest teaching: the capacity to bend completely and return to center, remaining rooted and stronger than before.
Swati nakshatra and Vayu's wind combined with Libra's inherent wind element work together. Both pulling toward motion, dispersal, transformation, release. Things are moving, being scattered and carried. This is not a full moon for clinging to what was. The perfect full moon to release into the wind and let Vayu carry it away.
And then there is Mars. Mars is casting a powerful 8th aspect to this full moon from Pisces where he spent the last several weeks entangled with Saturn and Mercury in the planetary war I have been writing about on my Substack page. Mars has not fully emerged from that difficult terrain, and his gaze on this full moon carries that weight.
The 8th aspect of Mars to the full moon is pressure, urgency, the impulse to move fast and deal with the consequences later. "Move fast, break things” is the unofficial motto of that aspect! Aimed at the Swati Full Moon in the nakshatra of the delicate shoot that survives only by avoiding rigidity... the instruction is genuinely double-edged. Vayu scatters with purpose; Mars just wants to get things moving. This full moon asks: Is this wind clearing the air, or just creating noise?
The Sun and Mercury in Aries on the opposite side of the axis add their own quality. Ideas are coming quickly and are perhaps stated more frankly than is always wise. Under this full moon, what is spoken aloud may travel further and faster than intended. Swati's shakti is dispersal. Words, ideas, communication released now scatter on the wind.
Which brings us to what saves this full moon from being simply a story of disruption.
Jupiter's trine to the Full Moon in Swati is significant: it is the planet of wisdom, dharma, and expansion lending his intelligence to Vayu's dispersal. This is the difference between a wind that scatters randomly and a wind that knows where the seeds need to land. Jupiter in Gemini brings ideas, breadth, the capacity to see a larger pattern in what appears to be chaos. Where Mars pushes for speed without direction, Jupiter offers the wisdom to use the motion well.
The picture, then, is more nuanced than it first appears. Yes, things are moving quickly. Yes, there is pressure. But there is also genuine beneficence in the air, with a supportive trine from the great benefic to a full moon of dispersal and transformation is not nothing. What is being released now may travel further and land better than you expect.
Whatever this full moon asks you to release, let the wind carry. Trust that what is genuinely yours cannot blow away.
Working with This Full Moon
Vayu is honored through breath. The simplest practice for this full moon is also the most direct: conscious, deliberate breathing. Not a formal pranayama sequence necessarily, but a few minutes of complete attention on the breath as prana — as the same divine wind that moves through the cosmos moving through you.
Sit with this question as you breathe: What am I ready to release? And what, beneath all the motion, is staying?
The full moon is exact at 10:22 AM PT on May 1st, which is Beltane in the Celtic calendar, a cross-quarter day associated with the threshold between seasons.

Your Rising Sign Guide for the New Moon
For the most accurate insights, read your Vedic rising sign rather than your Sun sign. Don’t know your rising sign? You can calculate your calculate your Vedic Birth Chart here.
Aries: The other side of the mirror
This full moon lands in the territory of your closest relationships and committed exchanges—the people who see you most clearly. Something that has been building is reaching a moment of illumination, and there is real pressure to address it: not next month, but now. The urgency is genuine, but so is the risk of moving too fast. The counterweight is a quality of expansiveness available in how you understand your connections; a sense that the larger picture can hold what feels immediately fraught. Choose with care what you release to the wind, and trust that what is genuinely true can withstand the gust.
Taurus: The daily life that sustains you
This full moon illuminates your daily routines, health practices, and the rhythms that either hold your life together or quietly erode it. Swati's connection to the divine breath asks plainly: what is actually sustaining you, and what has simply become habit? There is a sharpness here; a sense that the pace cannot continue unchanged, and the body knows it before the mind does. At the same time, a broader sense of possibility is opening around how you structure your days. Venus in your own sign is steady ground throughout. Let that embodied settledness be the guide for what you keep and what you release.
Gemini: What you have made
The wind is at your back, and Jupiter has your back! This full moon highlights creativity, self-expression, and what you have genuinely brought into being. The feeling of expansiveness right now is real. What you offer has reach; what you put into the world now travels. Mercury, your chart ruler, is direct and fast-moving in Aries. There is urgency in the air and a push to move quickly and not overthink. Swati's shakti is to make manifest; the time for holding back has passed. Trust what you have made. Let it scatter on the wind.
Cancer: The private foundation
What is usually most private, your home, family, and the emotional ground beneath everything else is being lit up now. Vayu moves through this zone not to uproot, but to clear, and that clearing can feel urgent. Something deferred in the domestic sphere is asking to be faced now. There is a quality of force to the energy here... an outside pressure making the interior life harder to ignore. At the same time, there is genuine expansiveness available for the long term. What your foundation actually needs, rather than what you have been managing around, is what this wind is asking you to address.
Leo: The necessary conversation
Something that has needed saying is finding its moment, and it may arise faster than anticipated. This full moon falls in the domain of communication, and Vayu’s influence here means your words travel far. What you put into circulation now has reach, which is both the opportunity and the caution. There may be a desire to push thoughts out before they are fully formed. The antidote: consider what you genuinely believe rather than what is merely expedient. Speak from a place of larger truth, and let Vayu carry it.
Virgo: What you actually value
This full moon falls in the domain of resources, material security, and self-worth. Vayu's purifying breath asks: what do you actually hold as precious, beneath the anxiety of holding on? There is pressure around this, a sharpness to the financial energy that can feel like things are moving faster than is comfortable. Mercury, your chart ruler, is cutting through habitual thinking about shared resources toward something more fundamental. Alongside the pressure, there is a broader, more generous understanding of what you actually need. Whether your life reflects your true values is the real inquiry.
Libra: You, fully seen
This is your full moon of the year! This is a deeply personal lunation in your first house of body, identity, and presence. Something about how you move through the world is ready to shift. You may feel a push from behind, a sense that the moment for a particular change has arrived. Alongside this is a philosophical clarity becoming visible in how you carry yourself. Venus in Taurus now strikes a quieter interior note: the transformation happening beneath the surface is more significant than what is visible. Trust what is moving in the depths.
Scorpio: The quiet work
This full moon illuminates the unconscious and what lies beneath the threshold of ordinary awareness. Vayu is the purifier here, moving through what has accumulated to begin the clearing. The tension is real: a restlessness is pressing on exactly what requires stillness. Examine the impulse to force something into the open. What you cannot yet release consciously, Vayu may carry away on its own. There is an expansiveness and trust available in the quiet that the restlessness tends to crowd out.
Sagittarius: Where you belong
This full moon lands in your community sector, including friends and networks of people who share your orientation toward the future. Vayu's shakti here is sorting: the wind separating what is truly yours from what has simply persisted out of familiarity. The pace of this sorting may feel faster than is comfortable, creating a push to cut what isn't working. Alongside that urgency, the vision of what is possible collectively is larger than it has looked recently. Which collective endeavors are worth your continued investment? Let the wind help you know.
Capricorn: The work that is seen
Something in your professional life or public role is culminating, whether you are ready for the visibility or not. The pressure to act is real, but the risk is moving too fast or letting urgency override discernment. The genuine gift is that what you believe about your own direction carries unusual weight right now. A more expansive understanding of where your work is heading is available, allow it inform your choices. What is culminating is not the end of the story.
Aquarius: What you believe
Philosophy and the beliefs that orient your life are lit up now. Vayu is carrying away inherited frameworks and convictions held out of habit rather than genuine knowing. There is a pressure making the usual philosophical patience harder to maintain; a sense that what needs to shift has waited long enough. A genuine expansiveness emerges when a limiting belief finally lets go. The full moon asks you to distinguish and release the beliefs that have simply calcified.
Pisces: The deep exchange
Issues of shared resources, intimacy, and deep emotional currents are being stirred up. The urgency is not imagined; something in the realm of the financial or energetic has been deferred and is asking to be addressed now. The risk is acting too quickly in terrain that rewards patience. While the pressure feels real, the deeper currents move on their own schedule. There is genuine expansiveness available for this full moon, a sense of what becomes possible when the "stuck" thing finally moves. Trust the process. The wind knows.
