October's New Moon is at it's darkest on Wednesday, October 6 at 4:05am Pacific Time.
The fiery and action oriented planet Mars is in the new Moon mix! It is less than a degree away from the Sun and Moon and is technically considered to be combust or in western astrology, cazimi. Mars brings tremendous internal energy and courage to the new Moon as we prepare for new beginnings.
The shadow side of Mars is impatience, obstinance and anger, so if you are planning important new Moon beginnings keep this in mind. Be patient and flexible with new beginnings.
Mercury retrograde is also in the sidereal Virgo with Mars, Sun and Moon. Be sure to read your Mercury retrograde forecast for your rising sign if you have not already done so!
There is a flowing and expansive influence to the new Moon from retrograde Jupiter. The watch out here is to not begin a new project that is too expansive for your resources or timeline. You can find the best hours for new beginnings detailed below.
Regardless of your rising sign, the underlying earth bound energy of Virgo is associated with this new Moon:
▪ No Detail Left Behind!
▪ Practical and Analytical
▪ Work and Service oriented

NEW MOON IN HASTA NAKSHATRA: WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?
HASTA, “THE HAND” Deity: Savitri Symbol: The Hand Shakti: To Put the Object of One’s Desire in One’s Own Hand Quality: Light and Swift VD Planetary Period Lord: Moon
Hasta means “hand,” and the shakti of this nakshatra literally means “to place what one desires within one’s reach or into their hand.” Any activity associated with the hands could be symbolized within Hasta, and often-times someone with planets in this nakshatra can be a great reiki master, surgeon, or artist. Read more about Hasta and the other nakshatras in my book, Vedic Astrology for Beginners. ▪ Anything to do with the hands: massage, yoga, pottery, crafts, trading▪All activities related to moving or movable matters such as changing residence, selling goods and services, organizing your home and gardening.
With the Sun closely combusting sometimes argumentative Mars, this is not a great new Moon for super important new beginnings, such as marriage, new businesses, etc. If possible wait until Sun moves past Mars and retrograde Mercury, and Saturn turning direct on October 11 and Jupiter direct on October 18!
NEW MOON RITUAL TIMING
New Moon Tithi (Phase): October 5, 6:35am Pacific Time through October 6, 4:05am Pacific Time
Best Timing for New Beginnings:This new Moon really is not the ideal time for very important (think marriage, job, moving, business, etc...) new beginnings with Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn all retrograde while Mars is conjunct the new Moon! Get your Lunar Phase Moon altar cloth here to follow the phases of the Moon as it waxes and wanes!
SIDEREAL VEDIC ASTROLOGY FORECASTS!
This is just a reminder for those who are new to my new and full Moon forecasts and other articles -- my forecasts are created using the sidereal system calculations. Your rising sign, and other planets in your birth chart will usually (but not 100% of the time) shift signs from your tropically calculated horoscope. Sidereal calculations are about 24 degrees (less than) different than tropical calculations.
